Courage for your travels (and still pretty good if you’re staying put).
Florence, Italy, 1919. About to embark on a long and tedious journey, Count Camillo Negroni walks into Caffé Giacosa. He’s about to order his usual Americano, but pauses saying “No soda for me today Amici - I need some liquid courage for my travels. Give me some gin with my Campari and Vermouth.”
With that, the Count created an all-time classic cocktail - The Negroni.
We have it on no authority that he then ordered several more and never actually made it out the door.
